Epidemiological Situation of Dengue Fever in French Guiana. Update as of June 21, 2013.
Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation
The dengue epidemic continues throughout French Guiana, except in the west, where the epidemic has ended. However, outbreaks are being observed (in St. Laurent and Javouhey) in the western sector; therefore, on June 21, 2013, the Committee for Monitoring Insect-Borne Human Diseases declared that this sector had entered Phase 2, “outbreaks.” Serotypes DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3, and DEN-4 are co-circulating, with a strong predominance of serotype DEN-2. Given the overall epidemiological situation, it is important to emphasize the importance of eliminating larval breeding sites and taking personal precautions against mosquitoes. In the event of sudden onset of fever, it is recommended to consult your primary care physician.
