Epidemiological Situation of Dengue Fever in French Guiana. Update as of July 19, 2013.

Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation

Despite a gradual improvement in the situation over the past few weeks, the dengue epidemic continues throughout French Guiana, which remains in Phase 4 of the PSAGE, except in the West where epidemic outbreaks have been identified (in St. Laurent and Javouhey) corresponding to Phase 2 “epidemic outbreaks” of the PSAGE. Serotypes DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3, and DEN-4 are co-circulating, with a strong predominance of serotype DEN-2. Given the overall epidemiological situation, it is important to remind the public of the importance of eliminating larval breeding sites and taking personal precautions against mosquitoes. In the event of sudden onset of fever, it is recommended to consult your primary care physician.
