Epidemiological Situation of Chikungunya in the Caribbean. Update as of January 9, 2014.
Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation
The chikungunya epidemic continues to spread in Saint Martin. In Saint Barthélemy, the steady increase in the number of biologically confirmed cases indicates active circulation of the virus on the island. Both territories remain in Phase 3a of the Psage* chikungunya response plan: Epidemic Situation. In Martinique, there has been an increase in the number of biologically confirmed cases and the number of affected municipalities. This department was placed this week in Phase 2b of the Psage: phase of active virus circulation with the presence of several local transmission chains. In Guadeloupe, an outbreak with active virus circulation has been identified. This department remains in Phase 2a of the Psage: moderate local transmission. In French Guiana, although the number of suspected cases is rising, only one biologically confirmed case—imported from Martinique—has been identified to date. French Guiana remains in the reinforced Phase 1 of the Psage.
