Dengue Surveillance in Guadeloupe and the Northern Islands. Update as of March 26, 2021
Key points
Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy
All dengue surveillance indicators are at low levels for the three territories, both in primary care and in hospitals.
In Guadeloupe, the number of weekly reported medical consultations for suspected dengue has been below the seasonal threshold for the past four weeks, and the predominant circulating serotype is DENV-2, with DENV-1 and DENV-3 circulating concurrently.
In Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy, the predominant circulating serotype is DENV-1.
In February and March 2021, the technical committees monitoring dengue, consulted in each of the three territories, proposed the end of the epidemic and a return to normal, in accordance with the respective PSAGE* guidelines. This proposed phase change will be submitted for validation to the management unit, which is expected to meet shortly.
Nevertheless, preventive measures should continue to be implemented (destruction of larval breeding sites, personal protection with repellents, use of mosquito nets and electric fly swatters) to reinforce this imminent transition out of the epidemic phase.
