Dengue Surveillance in the Caribbean. Update as of March 16, 2023.
Key Points
In Guadeloupe, three dengue outbreaks have currently been identified in the municipality of Saint-François, confirming that the virus continues to circulate, in addition to sporadic cases reported in other municipalities across the archipelago. The DENV-2 serotype has been identified; this is the serotype that circulated most widely during the last epidemic in 2019–2021.
In Martinique, the continued viral transmission within the outbreak identified in the municipality of Sainte-Anne and the occurrence of sporadic dengue cases in four other municipalities indicate localized circulation of the virus. The DENV-2 serotype has been identified by the CHUM virology laboratory, whereas the DENV-3 serotype was the one that circulated most widely in 2019–2021.
In Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy, the situation is calm. Various factors (traveler traffic, large events) could quickly lead to a deterioration of the epidemiological situation.
According to the PSAGE* dengue guidelines, the epidemiological situation corresponds to Phase 2, Level 1: Isolated outbreaks or outbreaks with no epidemiological link(s) in Guadeloupe and Martinique, and to Phase 1: Sporadic cases in Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy.
