Dengue Surveillance in the Caribbean. Update as of June 15, 2023.

Key Points

  • In Guadeloupe, the virus is spreading throughout the archipelago, with several sporadic cases, including three reported in Marie-Galante. Three outbreaks have been identified in Trois-Rivières, Gosier, and Saint-François.

  • In Martinique, the spread of the dengue virus continues, with sporadic cases now reported in three new municipalities in central and northern Martinique.

  • Several dengue cases have been imported into mainland France since the start of the resurgence in cases (November 2022 for Guadeloupe and January 2023 for Martinique). The DENV-2 serotype has been identified in the majority of investigated cases.

  • In Saint Martin, the epidemiological situation is stable; it is evolving in Saint Barthélemy, where particular vigilance is required.

According to the PSAGE dengue classification, the epidemiological situation corresponds to Phase 2, Level 1: Isolated outbreaks or outbreaks with no epidemiological link(s) in Guadeloupe and Martinique, and to Phase 1: Sporadic cases in Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy. These situations will be reassessed during the Interregional Technical Committee on Dengue Monitoring, which will take place on June 21, 2023.
