COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Martinique as of September 4, 2020
Key Points
In private practice, from August 24 to 30 (Week 35), the estimated number of consultations attributable to COVID-19 among consultations for acute respiratory infections (ARI) remained stable compared to the previous week. The number of visits for suspected COVID-19 conducted by SOS Médecins follows the same trend as the data from private practice (stable): 21 visits in Week 35 versus 20 in Week 34.
The number of patients residing in Martinique who were hospitalized in intensive care units has remained stable over the past two weeks. However, this relative stability is due to the number of admissions being offset by an equivalent number of discharges.
From August 24 to 30 (Week 35), 104 new patients confirmed with SARS-CoV-2 were recorded versus 159 the previous week (data consolidated as of September 2).
Data from virological surveillance (SI-DEP) in Week 35 indicate a relative decrease in the incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants, 29 per 100,000 in Week 35 versus 44.32 per 100,000 in Week 34. This trend should be interpreted with caution, as it is based on data from a single week; a resurgence in viral circulation is possible. The positivity rate (3.93% in week 35 vs. 4.79% in week 34) has also declined slightly.
Of the nine clusters identified since late July 2020, five have been resolved, three are under control, and a new cluster was identified this week (currently under investigation).
