COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Martinique, June 4, 2020

Summary

What is currently known about the situation in Martinique?

The epidemiological situation regarding COVID-19 in Martinique is stable, and surveillance indicators in the community and in hospitals remain low. To date, 202 people have tested positive for the virus; the most recent locally transmitted case was on May 25, 2020.

What is new in this Update for the region?

Virological surveillance relies on the SI-DEP system (screening information system), which has been operational since May 13, 2020, and is gradually being scaled up. This new surveillance system aims to comprehensively track all patients tested in France in community and hospital laboratories. Currently, the data transmitted pertains to RT-PCR tests performed.
Since the lifting of lockdown measures, the ARS, in collaboration with Santé publique France Antilles and local partners, has been responsible for investigating clusters (or transmission hotspots, episodes of clustered cases). To date, no clusters have been reported in our department.

What are the public health implications in the region?

The new organizational structure for epidemic control, implemented since the lifting of lockdown, involves several partners, including general practitioners, the Health Insurance Agency, the ARS Martinique, Santé publique France Antilles, private laboratories, and the CHUM. The goal is to quickly identify the emergence of new transmission chains in order to control them. Preventive measures, physical distancing, and contact tracing must be maintained to the fullest extent possible.
