COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Martinique as of July 23, 2021
Key Points
A sharp increase in incidence was recorded for the third consecutive week, with indicators and hospital pressure continuing to rise.
Last week (week 2021-28), the positivity rate continued to rise compared to the previous week and remained above the 10% alert threshold. Against a backdrop of increased testing, the incidence rate rose sharply (706 per 100,000 population, +152%), well above the alert threshold (50 per 100,000 population). The highest incidence was still recorded in the 15–44 age group (+120% compared to the previous week) and, within that group, among those aged 20–29 (2,013 new cases per 100,000 population) and among those aged 30–39 (1,529 per 100,000 inhabitants). Furthermore, 95% of infections are community-acquired, and the proportion of workplace clusters was increasing. At the start of week 2021-29 (the current week), the incidence rate and positivity rate remain above the alert thresholds, and the upward trend continues.
The R-value calculated from SI-DEP data for samples taken over the past 7 days was significantly greater than 1: 1.92 [1.85–1.99]
In hospitals, activity increased significantly for the second consecutive week. As of July 23, 109 patients were hospitalized in Martinique, including 13 in the intensive care unit, 4 in the critical care unit, and 87 in general wards. The same trend was observed in outpatient care.
