COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Martinique as of August 13, 2021
Key Points
In Martinique, the epidemic has continued to spread for the sixth consecutive week, and hospitals are under severe strain.
Over the past two weeks, transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus appears to have slowed: positivity and incidence rates have risen slightly, while testing rates have remained relatively stable. The positivity rate was 19.3% (+1.7%) in week 2021-31, and the incidence rate rose by 8% to reach 1,181 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Regarding 10-year age groups, incidence increased in all age groups between 30 and 89 years old and was highest among those aged 20–29 and 30–39. Among those aged 65 and older, incidence increased by 11% compared to the previous week. Finally, at the start of week 2021-32 (the current week), a slight decrease in incidence and positivity rates was observed, though this remains to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
In hospitals, activity was slightly increasing. The same trend was observed in outpatient care.
As of August 13, 360 patients were hospitalized in Martinique, including 45 in the intensive care unit, 15 in the critical care unit, and 296 in general wards.
The R-value calculated from SI-DEP data for samples collected between August 4 and 10 was significantly greater than 1: 1.05 [1.02–1.09].
