COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Martinique as of April 1, 2021

Key Points

The epidemiological situation regarding COVID-19 in Martinique continues to deteriorate. The rise in SARS-CoV-2 epidemiological indicators has continued into this fourth week of March, reflecting an intensification of viral circulation in the region. The positivity rate was above the vigilance threshold, and the incidence rate was above the alert threshold. In hospitals, activity remained high, with an increase in indicators compared to the previous week. Consultation activity for suspected COVID-19 remained high in private practice and was even increasing at SOS Médecins. The UK variant is actively circulating in the population, and low-level circulation of the Brazilian and South African variants has been observed. Individual preventive measures, contact-reduction measures, and vaccination must be strengthened. The region remains classified as having a high vulnerability level.
