COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of September 2, 2021
Key points
Guadeloupe
The decline in virological indicators observed in week 2021-33 was confirmed in week 2021-34, against a backdrop of similarly declining testing rates. However, positivity and incidence rates remain above their alert thresholds, respectively. The 30–39 and 20–29 age groups remain particularly affected. In hospitals, the situation remains critical, with a still-high number of new hospitalizations across all departments and in intensive care. Excess mortality, across all ages and causes of death, has been recorded since week 2021-31. The L452R mutation (carried by the Delta variant) is circulating predominantly throughout the territory.
Saint Martin
Despite increased testing, incidence and positivity rates are declining in week 2021-34. However, the incidence rate remains at a high level. In hospitals, the number of new hospitalizations across all departments was also decreasing. The L452R mutation (carried notably by the Delta variant) was identified in the majority of cases. Individual prevention measures, collective containment efforts, and the acceleration of vaccination must continue to be strengthened.
Saint Barthélemy
The circulation of SARS-CoV-2 slowed considerably in week 2021-34. However, the L452R mutation (carried mainly by the Delta variant) was identified in the majority of screened tests. Individual prevention measures, collective containment measures, and the acceleration of vaccination remain essential.
