COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of September 18, 2020

Guadeloupe

The COVID-19 outbreak has worsened in Guadeloupe over the past week. The rise in epidemiological surveillance indicators has continued. In week 37 (September 7–13), they show:

  • Values exceeding the alert thresholds for incidence and positivity rates. These are the highest rates recorded among French departments;

  • An increase in the number of emergency room visits and patients hospitalized in intensive care;

  • An increase in the number of outpatient visits for acute respiratory infections;

  • The identification of five new clusters from September 9 to 16 (grouped cases);

  • While the incidence rate is decreasing among those aged 15–44 and older, an increase is noted among those aged 40–59.

Saint Martin

The COVID-19 outbreak has continued in Saint-Martin over the past week, with epidemiological indicators tracking the spread of the virus on the rise. They show:

  • Values above the alert thresholds for incidence and positivity rates. These are the highest rates recorded among French departments;

  • A slight increase in the number of emergency room visits for suspected Covid-19 and outpatient consultations for acute respiratory infections;

  • The identification of a new cluster;

  • The age group of 75 and older is the most affected.

Saint Barthélemy

In Saint-Barthélemy, surveillance indicators show low viral circulation in the territory. The French Antilles are classified as an “area of active viral circulation.”
