COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of September 17, 2021

Key points

Guadeloupe

The decline in virological indicators continued in week 2021-36. The positivity rate was below the alert threshold, while the incidence rate remained above the alert threshold. The 15–44 age group remains affected, particularly those aged 20–29. In hospitals, the situation remains concerning despite the decrease in the number of new hospitalizations (across all departments and in critical care) and the number of emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19. Excess mortality, across all ages and causes of death, has been recorded since week 2021-31. The L452R mutation (carried notably by the Delta variant) is circulating predominantly throughout the territory.

Saint Martin

The epidemiological situation was generally stable in week 2021-36. The positivity rate was stable, and the incidence rate was decreasing amid a decline in testing. However, the incidence rate remains above the alert threshold. In hospitals, the number of emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 and new hospitalizations across all departments was also stable. The L452R mutation (carried notably by the Delta variant) was identified in the majority of cases.

Saint-Barthélemy

SARS-CoV-2 circulation remained at a low level in week 2021-36. No emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 and no new hospitalizations have been recorded in the past two weeks (2021-35 and 2021-36).
