COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of October 8, 2021

Key points

Guadeloupe

In week 2021-39, the decline in SARS-CoV-2 circulation continued for the 7th consecutive week. The positivity rate was below the vigilance threshold (5%) and continued to decline. The incidence rate also declined but remained above the alert threshold. The 15–44 age group remains the most affected, particularly those aged 30–49. The effective R value calculated from SI-DEP data for samples collected between September 26 and October 2 was 0.59 [0.53–0.66], significantly below 1, reflecting the decline of the epidemic. In hospitals, the situation improved further in week 2021-39, with a decrease in the number of new hospitalizations across all departments, the number of emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19, and mortality. Excess mortality, across all ages and causes of death, was recorded between weeks 2021-31 and 2021-36 (data currently being consolidated).

Saint Martin

Epidemiological indicators were generally stable in week 2021-39 compared to the previous week. The slight increase in incidence and positivity rates is partly due to increased testing. The positivity rate, however, remained below the alert threshold for the third consecutive week. In hospitals, a stable trend was also observed in emergency room visits and new admissions.

Saint-Barthélemy

In week 2021-39, SARS-CoV-2 circulation remained at a low and stable level amid a slight increase in testing. No new hospital admissions or deaths were recorded in SIVIC during week 2021-39.
