COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of October 1, 2021
Key points
Guadeloupe
In week 2021-38, the decline in SARS-CoV-2 circulation continued for the sixth consecutive week in Guadeloupe. The positivity rate is below the vigilance threshold for the first time since the peak of the fourth wave. However, the incidence rate is more than
twice the alert threshold. The 15–44 age group remains affected, particularly those aged 30–39. The effective reproduction number (R_0), calculated from SI-DEP data for samples collected between September 19 and 25, was 0.61 [0.55–0.66], significantly below 1, indicating
a decline in the epidemic. In hospitals, the situation improved further in week 2021-38, with a decrease in the number of new hospitalizations (across all departments and in critical care) and in the number of emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19. Excess mortality, across all ages and causes of death, was observed between weeks 2021-31 and 2021-36 (data currently being consolidated).
Saint Martin
Virological indicators were clearly declining in week 2021-38 amid stable testing rates. For the second consecutive week, the positivity rate has been below the alert threshold since late July (week 2021-30). The incidence rate is down 58% compared to the previous week. The downward trend is also observed in hospitals.
Saint-Barthélemy
SARS-CoV-2 circulation remained at a low and stable level amid a slight increase in testing during week 2021-38. No new hospital admissions were recorded on SIVIC during week 2021-38. Two deaths occurred in Saint-Barthélemy during week 2021-38.
