COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of November 27, 2020
Key points
Guadeloupe
Biological surveillance indicators for COVID-19 using RT-PCR have been below the alert thresholds for two weeks and are gradually approaching the vigilance thresholds. Viral transmission within the population is decreasing.
For the first time since the start of the second wave in mid-August (2020-34), incidence and positivity rates have been below alert thresholds for two consecutive weeks. In week 2020-47, they stood at 28 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and 7.1%, respectively. The incidence rate among those aged 65 and older was 30 per 100,000 population.
In outpatient and hospital settings, the number of consultations for acute respiratory infections, the number of new hospitalizations, and new admissions to intensive care units decreased in week 47 compared to the previous week. The number of emergency room visits and deaths occurring in hospitals, meanwhile, stabilized at low levels.
At the same time, the effective reproduction number (Reff), which describes the transmission of the virus among people in the territory, is decreasing. As of November 27, the Reff calculated over a 7-day rolling period based on laboratory data is estimated at 0.70 [0.56–0.86] and is therefore significantly below 1.
Saint Martin
Epidemiological surveillance indicators have fluctuated over the past few weeks, but a downward trend has been observed since early November. The virus is still actively circulating in the territory.
Incidence and positivity rates decreased slightly in week 47, with rates of 73 per 100,000 residents compared to 95 per 100,000 residents in week 46, and 10.2% compared to 13.8% in week 46. In community healthcare and hospitals, indicators remained stable over the past week (2020-47).
Saint-Barthélemy
Epidemiological surveillance indicators show a slight decrease in viral circulation over the past week. However, transmission remains active.
Over the past week (2020-47), the number of cases decreased (14 cases versus 25 in 2020-46), as did the positivity rate (5.7% in 2020-47 versus 7.0% in 2020-46) and the incidence rate (143 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 2020-47 versus 256 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2020-46). Given the small size of the population, the incidence rate quickly exceeds the vigilance or alert thresholds.
