COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of May 7, 2021
Key points
Guadeloupe
Epidemiological indicators remained stable at a still-high level last week (2021-17) despite a slight decrease in incidence and testing rates. Incidence and positivity rates were above their respective alert thresholds. In hospitals, pressure on the healthcare system persists, with a significant number of hospitalized patients across all departments and in intensive care. However, the number of emergency room visits and new hospitalizations (across all departments) increased slightly. The variant of concern (VOC) 20I/50Y.V1 is actively circulating in the archipelago. Sporadic cases (imported cases) of the 20A/452R variant (VOI, B1.617) as well as sporadic cases (local cases) of the variant of interest 20A/E484K (VOI, B1.525, Nigeria/US) were reported in weeks 2021-11 and 2021-12.
Saint Barthélemy
Last week (2021-17), epidemiological surveillance indicators remained at a low level. No hospital-related activity was reported.
Saint Martin
Virological surveillance indicators remained generally stable at a low level last week (2021-17) with stable testing rates. However, activity in emergency departments, as well as new hospital admissions, was on the rise. A new cluster has been identified. The evolution of the epidemiological situation must be closely monitored over the coming weeks.
