COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of May 28, 2021
Key points
Guadeloupe
The slow decline in virological indicators (incidence and positivity rates) since the peak of the third wave continued last week, against a backdrop of similarly declining testing rates. In week 2021-20, the number of emergency room visits and new hospital admissions (across all departments and in intensive care) remained stable compared to the previous week. However, hospital pressure persisted, with a significant number of hospitalized cases across all departments and in intensive care. The variant of concern (VOC) 20I/50Y.V1 is actively circulating in the archipelago (>90% of screened RT-PCR tests). Due to incomplete data, SI-ESMS and vaccination data are not presented for the region.
Saint-Barthélemy
Virological surveillance indicators recorded in week 2021-20 were low and stable despite an increase in the testing rate. In hospitals, no COVID-19 activity has been recorded for the past two weeks.
Saint Martin
Virological surveillance indicators—specifically positivity and incidence rates—were rising sharply compared to the previous week, despite stable testing rates. However, emergency department activity and new hospital admissions remained stable. One new death was recorded at the start of week 2021-21. The situation is deteriorating with active virus circulation.
