COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of May 28, 2020
Summary
What is currently known about the situation in our regions?
For several weeks now, following the lifting of lockdown measures, surveillance indicators have confirmed low levels of viral circulation in our regions.
What’s new in this update for the region?
Virological surveillance relies on the SI-DEP system (screening information system), which has been operational since May 13, 2020, and has been gradually ramped up. This new surveillance system aims to comprehensively track all patients tested in France in private and hospital laboratories. Currently, the data transmitted pertains to RT-PCR tests performed. Serology data will also be transmitted in the near future.
Since the lifting of the lockdown, the Regional Health Agencies (ARS), in collaboration with the regional units of Santé publique France and local partners, have been investigating clusters (or transmission hotspots, episodes of clustered cases). Contact tracing and testing of contacts help control these clusters. To date, no clusters have been reported in our regions.
Special attention during this post-lockdown period
A new framework for managing the epidemic has been established since the lifting of lockdown, involving numerous partners including primary care physicians, health insurance providers, the Regional Health Agency, Santé publique France, hospitals, and medical testing laboratories. The goal of this system is to minimize the emergence of new chains of transmission. Special vigilance is required for new arrivals by offering them a test upon arrival at the airport. Protective measures, physical distancing, and contact tracing must be maintained to the fullest extent possible.
