COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of July 31, 2020
Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation
Since the emergence of COVID-19 (late February) through July 30, a total of 328 cases have been confirmed in our territories: 265 in Guadeloupe, 53 in Saint Martin, and 9 in Saint Barthélemy. Over the past two weeks, Guadeloupe has recorded 72 new cases (compared to 10 in the previous two weeks), Saint Martin 8 new cases (compared to 0), and Saint Barthélemy 3 new cases (compared to 0).
Since the lifting of lockdown restrictions (May 13), the first cluster linked to a temporary gathering of people was identified on July 24 in Guadeloupe. As of July 30, it accounts for 18 confirmed cases.
Positivity rates remain low (below 2% since May 11), well below the 5% alert threshold despite high testing rates across all territories.
Incidence rates have also remained low, below the alert threshold of 10 per 100,000 inhabitants, since the lifting of lockdown measures (week 20).
The number of outpatient visits for acute respiratory infections has been low for several weeks, and the proportion attributable to COVID-19 is zero.
No visits to the emergency room for suspected Covid-19 were reported last week in our territories.
No patients with Covid-19 are currently hospitalized in the intensive care unit at the Guadeloupe University Hospital.
Surveillance data show an increase in the number of new confirmed cases, primarily linked to the “Temporary Gathering of People” cluster in Guadeloupe. Given the identification of this cluster, mass testing is currently being organized, with the goal of detecting a greater number of cases and implementing isolation measures immediately. The level of vulnerability for the territory of Guadeloupe remains limited, but vigilance regarding the detection of transmission chains and new clusters has been heightened.
For Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy, surveillance indicators show that the virus is circulating at a low level. The level of vulnerability for these territories remains limited.
