COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of August 26, 2021
Key points
Guadeloupe
For the first time since the start of the fourth wave of SARS-CoV-2 in mid-July (2021-28), a slight decrease in virological indicators was observed in week 2021-33, against a backdrop of declining testing rates. However, positivity and incidence rates remain above their alert thresholds. The 20–29 and 30–39 age groups are particularly affected. The effective reproduction number (R_e) calculated from data reported in SI-DEP for samples collected between August 15 and 21 was 0.92 [0.90–0.94], significantly below 1. In hospitals, the situation remains tense with a still-high number of new hospitalizations across all departments. Excess mortality, across all ages and causes of death, has been recorded since week 2021-31.
Saint Martin
The epidemiological situation was relatively stable but remained at a high level. Virological indicators—specifically incidence and positivity rates—remain above the alert and vigilance thresholds, respectively. In hospitals, the number of new hospitalizations across all departments was stable. Individual prevention measures, collective containment efforts, and the acceleration of vaccination must continue to be strengthened.
Saint-Barthélemy
A decrease in virological and hospital indicators is observed in Saint-Barthélemy. Individual prevention measures, collective containment measures, and the acceleration of vaccination must continue to be strengthened.
