COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of August 13, 2021
Key points
Guadeloupe
Guadeloupe is facing an unprecedented fourth wave since the outbreak began. The epidemiological situation deteriorated further in week 2021-31, with a very sharp increase in SARS-CoV-2 transmission. The number of new cases was more than double that of the previous week. Positivity and incidence rates continued to rise. The 20–29 age group recorded the highest incidence rate. In hospitals, pressure on the healthcare system intensified with a high number of new hospitalizations across all departments and in intensive care.
The R-effectif calculated from data reported in SI-DEP for samples collected between August 4 and 10, 2021, was 1.62 [1.58–1.65], significantly higher than 1.
Saint Martin
The epidemiological situation continued to deteriorate during week 2021-31 in Saint Martin. All epidemiological indicators were on the rise, indicating high transmission of SARS-CoV-2 within the population. The 15–44 age group is primarily affected.
Saint Barthélemy
A decrease in both virological and hospital-based indicators was observed in Saint-Barthélemy. However, positivity and incidence rates remained above the respective vigilance and alert thresholds, indicating significant circulation of SARS-CoV-2, against a backdrop of declining testing rates. The 15–44 age group was particularly affected.
