Key Points

Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika 

• An outbreak of locally transmitted dengue (2 cases) was detected in the Bouches-du-Rhône department. Three other dengue outbreaks were detected in mainland France (2 outbreaks in Occitanie, 1 outbreak in Nouvelle-Aquitaine), as well as 8 chikungunya outbreaks (5 in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, 2 in Occitanie, and 1 in Île-de-France).

West Nile Virus Infections

• A total of 18 human cases were identified in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) (+6 cases compared to the last report), half of whom were hospitalized. Nine cases were diagnosed in the Bouches-du-Rhône, 6 in the Vaucluse, and 3 in the Var. Several cases in horses have been diagnosed in these same departments.

Heat Wave, High Temperatures

• No heatwave is currently underway; however, a significant rise in temperatures is expected starting in the middle and end of this week in the region.
• In S35, heat-related activity in emergency services was in line with seasonal expectations and down compared to last week; it was low among SOS Médecins organizations.

Asthma at the Start of the School Year

• Every year, during the two weeks following the start of the school year, a spike in emergency care visits for asthma is observed among children. 
• Starting this week, the bulletin will track these visits through an analysis of OSCOUR® and SOS Médecins indicators.

Reportable Diseases

• In the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region, 30 reports were recorded in July 2026, nearly half the number recorded in July 2025 (57 cases). The decline is particularly evident for cases of legionellosis (17 vs. 30 in July 2025) and hepatitis A (5 vs. 12).

Mortality

• The number of deaths from all causes remained within the usual range of fluctuation in S34 (graphs not shown).
