Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika 

• No new locally transmitted cases identified
• The total number of cases in the region remains at a single outbreak of locally transmitted dengue (2 cases) in the Bouches-du-Rhône department.

West Nile virus infections

• High-risk period for West Nile virus infection. Active circulation of the virus in the Bouches-du-Rhône, Vaucluse, and Var departments
• A total of 47 human cases have been identified in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region (+8 cases compared to the last update), nearly half of whom have been hospitalized. Twenty-two cases were diagnosed in the Bouches-du-Rhône, 14 in the Vaucluse, and 11 in the Var. A very large number of equine cases have been diagnosed in these same departments.

Heat Wave, High Temperatures

• Although maximum temperatures remain unusually high for this time of year, no heat wave is forecast for the region in the coming days. Heat-related activity in emergency services was in line with expected levels and down compared to Week 37. No heat-related medical interventions were recorded by the SOS Médecins associations.

Asthma at the Start of the School Year

• In Week 38, emergency care visits for asthma among children under 15 continued to rise sharply for the second consecutive week, with figures similar to those of previous years: 271 emergency department visits (vs. 191 in Week 37), nearly half of which resulted in hospitalization (128 vs. 82 in Week 37), and 51 SOS Médecins interventions (vs. 20 in Week 37).

Mortality

• The number of deaths from all causes, based on INSEE civil registry data, remained within the usual range of fluctuation in Week 37 (graphs not shown).
• Data on electronic certification of all-cause deaths in S38 also remained
  within the usual range.
