Key Points

Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika 

• Since the start of enhanced surveillance (May 1), 53 imported cases have been identified in the region: 19 cases of chikungunya (+1 case compared to the previous week) and 34 cases of dengue (+3).
• No locally acquired cases have been detected in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, but several outbreaks have been detected elsewhere in France: 2 dengue outbreaks and one chikungunya outbreak in Occitanie, and 2 chikungunya outbreaks in Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

West Nile Virus Infections

• The first locally acquired human case was detected in Vaucluse. This brings the total number of human cases in the region to 4. The other 3 cases are residents of Bouches-du-Rhône. Several equine cases have been diagnosed in these same departments.

Heat Wave, Extreme Heat

• The third heat wave began in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region on July 30. All departments in the region were placed under an orange heat wave alert for at least one day by Météo France. The Alpes-Maritimes, Var, and Vaucluse departments have been under an orange heat wave alert since the start of the heat wave.
