Key Points

Several Outbreaks of Local Transmission Detected

In Nouvelle-Aquitaine, 37 locally acquired cases of chikungunya, spread across six transmission outbreaks, had been identified in the Gironde department as of September 2, 2026. Of these outbreaks, five are still active, and the number of cases is changing.
In addition, one locally acquired case of dengue has been identified in Dordogne; that outbreak has ended.

Summary of Imported Cases

From May 1 to September 2, 2026, 20 imported cases of chikungunya and 33 imported cases of dengue were identified in the region, with no imported cases of Zika.
The number of imported cases is significantly lower than during the same period last year (144 cases of chikungunya and 106 cases of dengue between May 1 and August 26, 2025).
Most of these individuals were returning from a trip to France’s overseas territories.
