Nutrition policy: Taking drastic measures is essential for citizens and our healthcare system.
The rise in overweight and obesity rates among the population appears to have leveled off in recent years, though significant disparities remain based on socioeconomic status. Public health policy now combines nutrition and physical activity, information and education, individual behaviors and the environment, but still struggles to engage private-sector stakeholders. Among the new measures proposed are: implementing simple food labeling, regulating advertising aimed at children, and introducing taxes based on the nutritional quality of foods.
