Hervé Maisonneuve Appointed Scientific Integrity Officer for Three Years
Santé publique France has appointed Dr. Hervé Maisonneuve as an external advisor on scientific integrity for a three-year term (2026–2029) to ensure compliance with ethical principles and advise the agency on combating misinformation.
In light of the information published by *Le Monde* on September 22, 2026, the national public health agency, Santé publique France, considers that the conditions are no longer met for Dr. Hervé Maisonneuve to serve as the scientific integrity advisor. Dr. Hervé Maisonneuve has therefore submitted his resignation from the position of external scientific integrity advisor, which has been accepted by the General Directorate of Santé publique France.
By signing the French Charter of Ethics for Research Professions in 2022, Santé publique France reaffirmed its commitment to a rigorous scientific approach. The Executive Board of Santé publique France has appointed Hervé Maisonneuve as the scientific integrity officer to assist the agency in formalizing and implementing a scientific integrity policy tailored to its missions and activities.
The scientific integrity officer will perform several key functions within the agency:
- a monitoring role;
- preventing and addressing breaches of scientific integrity;
- a role in reporting on cases of breaches that have been addressed.
In addition, the Director General has entrusted Hervé Maisonneuve with an advisory role on the agency’s publication strategy and on the design of its strategy to combat disinformation and misinformation.
Hervé Maisonneuve
A public health physician, Hervé Maisonneuve has extensive experience in clinical research, the evaluation of professional practices and health technologies, and the formulation of health recommendations and advisory opinions.
He has served on the editorial boards of several international peer-reviewed scientific journals, including JAMA International, and chaired the European Association of Science Editors.
He was a member of the working group for the report “Assessment and Proposals for the Implementation of the National Charter for Scientific Integrity” (the Corvol Report, 2016), which aimed to strengthen the protection of scientific integrity within organizations.
Today, he is a member of the AP-HP Office of Scientific Integrity and of the expert group responsible for the list of recommended journals for the Conference of Deans of Medical Schools and the National Council of Universities (CNU) Health.
In January 2026, he co-authored, with Mathieu Molimard and Dominique Costagliola, the report “Health Information. An Assessment of Strengths and Weaknesses. Recommendations for a National Strategy on Health Information and the Fight Against Misinformation,” which was submitted to the Minister of Health, Families, Autonomy, and People with Disabilities.
