National Study on Children’s Well-Being (Enabee): “Feedback on the Consultation Process for the First Edition of the Study, from December 2021 to June 2023”

As part of the launch of the national study on children’s well-being (Enabee), Santé publique France organized a consultation process with stakeholders involved in the study and its implementation (healthcare professionals, parent-teacher associations, teachers’ unions, principals and teachers from randomly selected schools, etc.). This process, which is uncommon in the field of epidemiology, helped establish a dialogue between the project team and the stakeholders involved, thereby allowing the team to incorporate stakeholders’ requests and feedback while also addressing concerns regarding the sensitive—and even taboo—topic of children’s mental health. More than 20 meetings were held between January 2021 and June 2023 to exchange information on the study’s objectives, its implementation in schools, and its initial findings. These discussions led to concrete actions: modifications to the study questionnaire following the pilot phase, improvements in communication regarding the study and the data collection method, and so on. They also led to suggestions for improvements for the next edition (such as revising the study timeline and taking into account families who speak other languages). The majority of participants in the consultation welcomed the implementation of such a study and its methodology, and contributed significantly to its smooth operation and success.
