Week 36 (September 4–10, 2023):
In the Indian Ocean region, the fourth week of school in Réunion and the third week in Mayotte, visits to the emergency room for asthma among children under 15 continued to rise, though at a less pronounced rate than in Week 35 (119 visits vs. 106 in Week 35, or +12% vs. +30% in Week 35), with a stable share of activity around 8% and comparable to that of previous years. The proportion of hospitalizations following an emergency room visit was slightly higher (37% in Week 36 vs. 31% in Week 35).
Nationally, during the first week of the school year in mainland France, asthma-related visits among children under 15 continued to rise at SOS Médecins (+36%, or +70 visits) as well as in emergency departments, where the increase was more pronounced (+71%, or +704 visits vs. +27% in S35). The proportion of cases was also up, particularly in emergency departments (2.6% vs. 1.7% in Week 35) and comparable to that of previous years, as was the proportion of hospitalizations following a visit to the emergency department (33% vs. 27% in Week 35).
