#smokefree: Santé publique France is relaunching and expanding its "Welcome to a Smoke-Free Life" campaign
In the lead-up to World No Tobacco Day, Santé publique France is relaunching its “Welcome to a Tobacco-Free Life” campaign starting May 2, 2022, to build on the momentum gained last year and strengthen the movement to denormalize tobacco.

Following a decline in smoking rates in mainland France—with 1.9 million fewer daily smokers between 2014 and 2019—France still has nearly 15 million daily and occasional smokers*. The latest data from the 2020 Public Health France Barometer show a break in the downward trend observed since 2016 (a trend to be confirmed by the upcoming results of the 2021 Public Health Barometer, available in late 2022). In this context, and because tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable death in France, it is important to continue smoking prevention efforts.
Thus, from May 2 to 31, 2022, Santé publique France is relaunching the “Welcome to a Tobacco-Free Life” campaign, launched in 2021 and targeting smokers aged 18–64, to maintain the momentum and help further denormalize tobacco by encouraging the general public to join the 50 million French people who live tobacco-free.
“Welcome to a tobacco-free life”: a campaign focused on the benefits of a tobacco-free life and an invitation to join the 50 million non-smokers in France
From May 2 to 31, 2022, Santé publique France is relaunching its campaign to amplify the movement to denormalize tobacco among the general public, with a particular focus on the most vulnerable smokers.
In a 30-second TV spot, a tobacco-free life is presented as a desirable norm. It is aimed at the general public, celebrates everyone’s victories over smoking, and welcomes people to a tobacco-free life. This spot is available in three 10-second videos and will be broadcast on television and via digital video (on computers, mobile devices, or tablets).
The initiative will be complemented by a local poster campaign (urban and transit advertising) across the country. Finally, a digital campaign featuring web banners and social media posts using the hashtag #VieSansTabac (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), along with a special digital press campaign, is also planned to highlight life without tobacco through testimonials from former smokers.
