In week 41, SARS-CoV-2 transmission increased in mainland France, with a rise in the incidence rate and a trend toward stabilization in national hospital indicators.

  • Mainland France:

    • More pronounced increase in the incidence rate among those aged 60–89

    • Trend toward increased hospitalizations in certain regions

  • Overseas territories:

    • French Guiana: incidence rate and new hospitalizations are decreasing but remain high

  • 99% of cases identified as the Delta variant through sequencing during the Flash surveys on September 21 and 28, 2021

Contact tracing

  • Increase in the number of new cases and new contacts identified in Contact Covid

  • Increase in the proportion of people aged 65 and older among cases and contacts

Prevention

  • Vaccination (Covid Vaccine data):

    • As of October 19, 2021, 75.9% of the general population had received at least one dose and 73.9% were fully vaccinated

    • As of October 19, 2021, 13.7% of those aged 65 and older had received a booster dose

    • Vaccination coverage among adults in vulnerable situations is lower than in the general population: 74.9% for at least one dose and 72.7% for full vaccination (vs. 81.6% and 79.6%, respectively) as of October 17, 2021

  • CoviPrev Survey Wave 28 (September 28–October 5, 2021): increase in reported sleep problems and anxiety-depressive disorders compared to Wave 26 (July 15–21, 2021)

  • Importance of combined measures: vaccination, including booster shots for those aged 65 and older, participation in contact tracing, and adherence to preventive measures
