COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for May 21, 2020

  • For the past seven weeks, epidemiological indicators of SARS-CoV-2 circulation have been declining in France, with the exception of Mayotte

    • A decrease in COVID-19-related visits to hospital emergency rooms, reflecting a decline in new infections

    • Decrease in the number of new hospitalizations, new ICU admissions of COVID-19 patients, the number of hospitalized patients, and the number of patients in the ICU

  • A slight increase in the number of SOS Médecins calls during week 20, but overall activity has remained stable for more than two weeks

  • In Mayotte, SARS-CoV-2 transmission remains at a high level

  • Patients at risk for COVID-19

    • ICU: 83% of cases with comorbidities and 54% aged 65 and older

    • Deaths: 86% with comorbidities and at least 93% aged 65 and older

  • Decline in multisystem inflammatory syndromes occurring in children and linked to the COVID-19 epidemic Excess all-cause mortality at the national level, particularly pronounced in the Grand Est and Île-de-France regions, especially during weeks 13 through 17, and trending back toward usual levels
