“Local elected officials are public health facilitators” [Interview]

Rural areas, which are vast and sparsely populated, face challenges such as limited access to healthcare, a shortage of healthcare professionals, and isolation—particularly when it comes to mental health. Local elected officials, who are on the front lines, can serve as facilitators, as municipalities possess a valuable asset: proximity, trust, and social ties. They are calling for better coordination of public health policies and for full involvement in these efforts to ensure equitable access to healthcare and promote prevention.
