Survival Rates for People with Cancer in Metropolitan France, 1989–2018 - Bladder

In France, the estimated number of new cases of invasive bladder cancer in 2018 was 13,074, 81% of which occurred in men. The estimated number of deaths from bladder cancer in 2018 was 5,335, 77% of which occurred in men. Key points: 5-year age-standardized survival rate of 55% for men and 49% for women between 2010 and 2015; Worse survival for women compared to men, observed across all age groups, and linked to higher excess mortality immediately after diagnosis; Decline in survival between 1990 and 2015, more pronounced among younger individuals, likely an artifact due to changes in coding and case registration.
