The Health of the Population in France. 2017 Report

This report seeks to meet the challenge of providing a concise and informative overview, in a single volume, of the available data used to describe the health status of the population in France. In line with previous editions, health status is examined in its broadest sense. Beyond data on the prevalence of diseases or their impact on individuals (functional limitations, perceived health, etc.), behaviors, the environment, and living conditions that influence health are also described. The description of this health status by region is one of the major new features of this report, which contains numerous regional and subregional indicators as well as a specific presentation of the new regions resulting from territorial reform. Many indicators reveal an overall good state of health among the French population, whose life expectancy remains one of the highest in the world. For many conditions, trends in mortality and morbidity are favorable. However, due to the aging population, the burden of chronic conditions—which are more common among older adults—is increasing. Furthermore, a detailed analysis reveals the persistence of social and regional health inequalities, as well as some concerning trends, particularly among adults under 65. The report is available on the DREES website, which coordinated the publication with Santé publique France: https://drees.solidarites-sante.gouv.fr/publications-documents-de-reference/rapports/letat-de-sante-de-la-population-en-france-rapport-2017
