Exposure of Pregnant Women to Environmental Pollutants in France in 2011 - Volume 3: Summary and Conclusions
The national biomonitoring program, implemented by Santé publique France (formerly the Institut de veille sanitaire), includes a perinatal component based on a subsample of pregnant women included in the biological component of the ELFE cohort (French Longitudinal Study from Early Childhood). The perinatal component of the national biomonitoring program has made it possible, for the first time, to describe the exposure of French pregnant women to certain environmental pollutants and to quantify, where possible, the determinants of these exposure levels. This estimation is based on the measurement of biomarkers in biological samples collected in maternity wards from women who gave birth in mainland France in 2011. Volume 3 of the report presents a summary of the study’s results and general conclusions to identify the study’s main strengths and areas for improvement. This volume also presents the exposure reference values developed for the specific population of pregnant women in France, as well as Santé publique France’s recommendations and outlook regarding research, methodology, prevention, and health promotion.
