Effective Interventions for the Prevention of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) Among Youth and Adults: A Synthesis of the Evidence—Key Findings.

This document is a summary of the report *Validated Interventions for the Prevention of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) Among Youth and Adults*, produced by INPES. The purpose of this summary is to provide public health officials and frontline professionals with an overview of interventions whose effectiveness has been validated through scientific protocols. To ensure effectiveness and rigor, this review of the current state of knowledge was conducted using a method developed at INPES in 2010 to select and analyze scientific literature in order to identify and classify relevant methods. Approximately twenty interventions are identified here as having an impact on STI prevention. Most of them target at-risk adult populations and/or are aimed at the general population, while a few target adolescents. Most are single-component interventions based on skill development (negotiation, communication, condom use, decision-making), education, information dissemination, or the offer of screening; a few combine multiple modalities and can be implemented in schools, involving family members, peers, and/or the community. Others use the media to effectively capture the attention of young adults. Knowledge of these intervention modalities, widely used internationally, should enrich the discussion on practices developed in France.
