In the field of young children’s mental health, preventive home-based interventions to support parenting have been developing for several decades. Recognizing that environments harmful to health affect the well-being of families and children and hinder their ability to access mainstream services, stakeholders involved in developing preventive measures have sought to create proactive, early-intervention, sustained, and targeted programs delivered in the homes of participating families. Implementation and effectiveness measures are generally defined by researchers, and the assessment of these interventions’ impact depends on these partial evaluation models, with the beneficiaries often remaining on the sidelines. In France, the first experimental project for preventive home-based intervention (CAPEDP) consisted of a 27-month protocol of regular home visits to young parents, conducted by psychologists. The purpose of this presentation is to describe the protocol and the results of a qualitative study conducted with 16 beneficiaries of the intervention, who were interviewed at the conclusion of the research. Categorical content analysis revealed that the overall experience of the participants interviewed was positive, with numerous perceived benefits (flexibility of the program, quality of the intervention in terms of guidance and psychological support, quality of the relationship with the interventionists, ability to help and be helped...), though some criticisms were also raised. These criticisms mainly concerned the facilitators’ lack of technical experience—in child care, perinatal health—the fact that the program staff were not mothers, the lack of contact with other parents participating in the research, difficulties related to the study’s termination, the insufficient role given to fathers, and the cumbersome nature of the evaluation protocol. The discussion will focus on the lessons to be learned from the experience of the beneficiaries of this intervention in terms of developing preventive measures.
