Men's Health, May/June 2005, No. 377: The Theoretical Foundations of Health Education

What are the theoretical foundations of health education? The coordinators of this special issue interviewed experts from various fields and disciplines about their theoretical frameworks and their approaches. Health education draws upon a wide range of sciences and disciplines, including health sciences, behavioral sciences, education, and communication... Each author chose a specific angle of approach from among the concepts that define their discipline to describe the various models that shape health education. Some were then invited to identify the concepts underlying the initiatives presented in the form of fact sheets. Also in this issue, the Patient Education section, which, over the course of about ten pages, addresses support for the families of people with Alzheimer’s disease through programs and tools designed to educate patients and their loved ones.
