Why and how noise is harmful to health.

Can listening to music at very high volume levels damage hearing? Scientific studies are scarce, but the existing literature nevertheless concludes that there is a real risk. Among people under 25, exposure to noise—from all sources—appears to be the leading cause of hearing loss. The WHO recommends a maximum exposure of four hours four times a year to sound levels exceeding 100 decibels, which corresponds to the noise level of a nightclub or a rock concert.
