We need to be more open to vulnerable people.
Often overlooked, socio-environmental determinants such as social connections, financial resources, and community solidarity play a major role in the health of older adults. They influence their quality of life and, in particular, their independence. In this interview, Jean-Pierre Aquino emphasizes the need for society to take these determinants into account by creating a suitable environment for people as they age. He condemns the exclusion of the elderly and advocates for a reorientation of the National "Aging Well" Plan to benefit the most vulnerable individuals who are at risk of becoming dependent. It is the prevention of this dependency that can be developed, as disability-free life expectancy depends as much on environmental, economic, and political factors as it does on individual factors.
