Teenagers need to be listened to, but that's not enough: we need to get involved [Interview].

Patrick Alvin, whose book on adolescents at risk of suicide was recently reissued,1 explains the importance of taking a different approach to suicidal behavior, as each situation is unique. For healthcare professionals, this means being prepared for these types of encounters, providing a long-term support system, meeting the adolescent and their family where they are, knowing how to involve other professionals when necessary, and not expecting psychiatry to solve everything.
