Religious Affiliation, Spirituality, and Health in Quebec.

According to a Quebec survey conducted in 1998, spirituality appears to have a positive effect on people’s physical and mental health, insofar as it enhances their ability to cope with distress. Sociologist Éric Le Grand reports on this survey. Sixty-nine percent of Quebecers surveyed believe that their spiritual values have a positive effect on their physical or mental health. One of the key aspects of this research is its exploration of spiritual values beyond religious affiliations, thereby accounting for societal changes. Spirituality, in particular, reflects the search for meaning in one’s life.
