To provide citizens with the tools they need to understand information on health and prevention.
Interview with Tim Greacen, patient advocate at the Georges-Pompidou European Hospital in Paris. Tim Greacen, patient advocate at the Georges-Pompidou European Hospital, makes a strong case for transparency regarding the source of information. For this expert, healthcare democracy can only function fully if every stakeholder, whether from the public or private sector, acknowledges and discloses any interests they may have so that the public can assess the implications. The goal is for all citizens to be able to obtain information in a fully transparent manner and in advance regarding any potential conflicts of interest related to the services offered, whether these involve information, care, prevention, or health promotion. It calls for genuine health literacy education, which must begin in school, by developing, on the one hand, the critical thinking skills of the youngest students and giving them the tools to understand where information comes from, and on the other hand, their creativity, so that they can form their own views on health and become effective and innovative agents of their own well-being.
