Mobile Team for At-Risk Preteens and Teens: Reaching Out to Struggling Youth and Their Families [Interview].
In Rennes, a multidisciplinary mobile team reaches out to preteens and teenagers experiencing psychological difficulties, primarily boys around the age of 12. To do so, the team uses a camper van converted into a mobile office. These young people, who have not explicitly sought help, are referred to the mobile team by frontline mediators in schools. Parents and family members are closely involved in the follow-up process. According to an evaluation of the first 403 young people supported, the mobile team’s intervention helps restore family communication, reduce school absenteeism, and decrease aggressive behavior.
