*The Kid with a Bike*: a film about the pain of being abandoned by one's father.

Winner of the Jury Grand Prix at the last Cannes Film Festival, the Dardenne brothers’ *The Kid with a Bike* depicts the suffering of a 12-year-old boy who has been placed in a foster home after being abandoned by his father and who refuses to accept this cruel reality. In addition to the theme of the emotional distress of a young boy deprived of a paternal bond, the film explores in particular the fierce refusal to communicate, as well as the inability of children facing an extremely violent reality to “put into words” what they are feeling.
