How to address weight-related issues without contributing to stigma: the Quebec approach.

In Quebec, recent studies show an increase in problems related to excess weight, as well as the risks posed by excessive concern about weight, whether justified or not. For the government plan implemented in 2006, the challenge is therefore twofold: promoting healthy lifestyle habits and working to reduce the negative perception of excess weight in society. Furthermore, creating supportive environments and improving dietary, physical activity, and health habits for the entire population should help reduce the risk of stigmatization of specific population subgroups.
