This special issue of "La santé de l'homme" provides insights into health economics. It consists of four articles that address: the health needs of the population, how these needs are addressed in health policies, and their definition and assessment; the performance and characteristics of the French system, and how the various healthcare sectors operate; the financing of the healthcare system; and the shift toward better management of healthcare spending and improved resource planning.
